Apricots and the Magic Bullet

We picked several buckets of apricots from the trees at Rick's parents home on Monday. They make the best dried fruit and fruit leather. We've always enjoyed dried apricots, especially Rick. We've made dried fruits and leathers for years and the kids love it.

You just wash them, pit them and put them on the trays of the dryer. Couldn't be easier.

After about 8 hours, this is what you get. I bag of delicious dried apricots. I know, I know, they don't look so good, but the taste is great. The taste is more concentrated and they are very chewy.

This year we heard about a new idea from Rick's sister Robyn. We froze a bunch on several cookie sheets and we'll use them for smoothies through the fall and winter. So simple and a good change from the flavors we usually have.
Claire introduced us to the Magic Bullet when we visited her last. It's a great little blender that you can use to just make individual smoothies. There are six cups that come with it and I love it! The name doesn't make any sense to me and I usually can't remember it, so I just call it "the little blender."

Here is the finished product. Ready to go. I usually drink a smoothie on my way to work. Bottoms up!

Yummy. How do you make the fruit leather. I don't have a dehydrator, but I remember grandma setting them out on cookie sheets in the sun in Rupert.

I love smoothies! What else do you put in besides the fruit? I do yogurt, a banana and some fruit juice.

JJ. Sorry, I don't know how to make leather without a dryer. Check with Mom, she may be able to give you some pointers for the old fashion method. Hey, how do I get on to your blog?

Lee - I do the same, fruit of any kind, juice or milk or even water and always four or five ice cubes along with the yogurt to give it that cold icy texture. I love a good smoothie!

I heart the Magic Bullet, and fruit leather (although it causes major intestional problems for some, or for those who eat too much of it).

Homespun dried apricots are delicious and much better than ones from the store
