O come, let us adore Him - Day 23

OBEDIENCE

Obedience is the first law of heaven.  It is an act of faith.  We may sometimes be asked to do things we don't completely understand or want to do.  As we obey we increase in faith, knowledge, wisdom, testimony, protection and freedom.  Obedience to God's commandments actually frees us from falling into sin and the terrible consequences brought about by sin and mistakes.  Overall, people who follow God's commandments live happier lives.  They can be free from addictions, immorality and the heartache of broken marriages and homes that breaking the law of chastity usually bring about. Obedience gives a person strength and confidence.  Obedience is a strength, not a weaknesses.  The discipline we learn through obedience and clean living and wholesome lives builds an armor around us of protection and safety from the temptations of the world.

I think of Mary and the obedience she showed in following the instructions from the angel.  Her comment " Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word," is a powerful example of complete obedience to the will of God.  Turing our will over to God and allowing Him to make more of us than we can make of ourselves is an act of faith and obedience.

Without obedience, nothing happens. The elements were obedient to the word of God, and the creation of the earth occurred. I love the idea that obedience is not a weakness, but a strength. Obedience to God's laws and commandments would cure so many of the problems in the world today.
