The attribute of VIRTUE has many components and it is made manifest in each person through their innermost thoughts and desires. The word is synonymous with the words chastity, cleanliness, goodness, holiness, modesty, purity and sacredness. Some may have the mistaken notion that the attribute of virtue only applies to women. This couldn't be further from the truth! We all need to develop the attribute of virtue. Our thoughts lead to actions and behaviors that then lead to either high standards or low standards.
It is a Christlike attribute that is largely ignored in our modern society. Social norms that have existed for centuries are under attack and are changing to accommodate the lowering of moral standards and the once cherished attribute of virtue.
We are in control of the level of virtue in our lives by how we think, act and treat ourselves and others. Virtuous people are easily identified by how they speak, act and in how they live their lives. In order to have the influence of the Holy Ghost in our lives to guide us and to help us, we need to strive to be virtuous in thought and action. This doesn't mean that we can't have any fun or that we need to be near perfection to achieve Christlike virtue. It does mean that we need to be aware of our actions, behavior and choices that either bring us closer to Christ or drive us further away from his influence. I've experienced both distance and nearness to His influence in my life. The days, months and even some years of distance were hard, empty and unhappy times. The years of nearness have brought me peace and comfort and a sense that I am on the path. That is the goal - to be on the path of virtue and to be conscious of what we are trying to achieve.
Virtuous people are clean and pure spiritually. The pay attention to and follow the commandments of God and truly strive to live them. They pray for strength to overcome their weaknesses and they are always striving to improve and be better. They recognize when they have done wrong and quickly try to set things right by repenting and moving forward, being careful not to repeat past mistakes.
Another component of virtue is the moral aspect of following God's standards for being morally clean. This means that we are aware of what we need to do live the law of chastity and not commit adultery or anything like unto it. This means that we are following a code of sexual behavior that is within the bounds the Lord has set. This applies to both sexes and is often a stumbling block for many people. One of the powerful tools of Satan is to convince us that these standards are out of date and that they are no longer needed in the modern world. So much unhappiness and misery has been brought to bear in the lives of millions of people because of the lack of virtue in their lives and the consequences of poor choices in this regard.
2 Peter 1: 3-8 outlives why the Lord values virtue so much
Proverbs 31:10 - Who can find a virtuous woman (or man)? for her/his price is far above rubies.

Virtue can be displayed privately, also. It can manifest itself in what we think and do when we believe we are alone and no one else is watching. Thanks for your virtue, Vonnie.
