Claire is a big fan of the New Yorker magazine. She has shared some articles and copies the magazine with us. I thought this cover was particularly interesting. A picture speaks one thousand words. Click it to enlarge and look at it closely. There are so many other articles about the adverse effects of television by various outlets, including the internet. I won't even be able to scratch the surface of the research out there about the down side of TV viewing. Some of the most disturbing have to do with the effects on children (here.) to the point of TV being a possible/certain contributor to ADD and ADHD. "Acceptance of Stupidity." That about sums up television, for the most part. It plays to the lowest common denominator, and rarely causes people who watch it to aspire to anything good. It is, as stated before, a waste.
Good stuff on TV viewing. I love the picture from the New Yorker, and am positive that people look like that more often than they would think. It is scary about kids and TV and is a good reminder for me to monitor my girls TV time. It definitely comes in handy, but can also become a mothers crutch.
