Happy Keester

ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE I LEARNED FROM THE EASTER BUNNY
~Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
~Walk softly and carry a big carrot.
~Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
~There's no such thing as too much candy.
~All work and no play can make you a basket case.
~A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention.
~Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
~Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
~Some body parts should be floppy.
~Keep your paws off other people's jellybeans.
~Good things come in small sugarcoated packages.
~The grass is always greener in someone else's basket.
~An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare.
~To show your true colors you have to come out of your shell.
~The best things in life are still sweet and gooey !!

Is it the chicken or the egg?

I couldn't take it any longer. The sheer agony of pulling those poor little peeps apart and torturing them caused me to give up eating them. Even when done humanely, with anesthesia and bandaging, they still suffered. They were once my favorite Easter candy. Sadly, that is no longer the case. In a final eulogy I give them this shout out - "did you know that everyone's favorite Easter candy is celebrating its 50th anniversary? Marshmallow Peeps -- those little yellow marshmallows shaped like chicks -- are as much a rite of Spring as the Easter bunny and pastel-colored eggs. In fact, Marshmallow Peeps have been the top selling non-chocolate Easter candy brand for the last decade -- even outselling jellybeans. In addition to the yellow chicks, today's Peeps are "Always in Season" and come in all sorts of colors and shapes for holidays throughout the year. In honor of its 50th Anniversary, Just Born -- the company that manufactures Marshmallow Peeps -- is hatching new plans for the candy." Check out this fun web site here.

I've let them run free and escape to safe waters.

I've moved on from these darling little chicks to...

these tasty little eggs. Shocking I know. Vonnie is not a great chocolate lover. There is something about that crunchy outer shell that made me a faithful fan. Cadbury Mini Eggs are unique. There’s nothing else like the Mini Eggs, they’re even oddly shaped, irregular, more like little rounded cones than eggs, they’re just such satisfying shapes. What sets them apart from other chocolate candies at this time of year, first and foremost, is that they contain Cadbury chocolate. Cadbury is rather milky tasting, and certainly very sweet. Then it’s all cloaked in this amazingly odd slightly sanded, matte shell. The shell is crunchy and has a slightly cool feel in the mouth. You can dissolve it away to get to the chocolate centers, or you can crunch the whole thing together for a sweeter burst. The colors are even a little less common. Because of the matte finish the yellow, pink, blue and white morsels look like chunks of colored chalk and even have a slightly chalky feel when you first put them in your mouth.
I also discovered which came first. It was the CHICKEN Peep and it layed those darn good little Cadbury mini -EGGS. Please would someone come and take them away from me? Please????

Seven Wives Inn

There is a great place in St. George called the Seven Wives Inn. Take an inside tour of it here. and click on the link that says "rooms." It's a bed and breakfast "hotel" and it is delightful. It is a pioneer era home what was owned by a polygamist man who supposedly had seven wives. Each room is the name of one of his wives - Melissa, Jane, Mary Ann, Lucinda, Harriet, Sarah & Julia. The first picture is the main building that contains seven separate bedrooms and bathrooms. In between this building and the one on the right is a lovely little swimming pool. The separate grey building with the balcony is a second home that the owners bought and restored to enlarge their business and it is right next to the swimming pool. It has several additional rooms in it. I highly recommend this B&B for your next visit to St. George. The decorations and accommodations are top rate. We've probably stayed there 6-8 times over the years. One of the first times we went, I bought this recipe from the owners. It's the best granola of all time. It has peanut butter in it which probably is the secret ingredient. Across the street from the Seven Wives is the Brigham Young summer home (the one with the green trim.) It's a great place to visit and they also offer tours of that home. The grounds, surrounding homes and history of this historic area in St. George is fascinating and informative.

I"ll include the recipe for your eating enjoyment! I also have four other breakfast recipes from Seven Wives that they serve at breakfast. If you want a copy, please let me know. They include the sausage "thing," pecan cream cinnamon rolls, german apple pancakes and surp"rice" souffle.
Seven Wives Inn Granola
8 cups oats
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups wheat germ
8 oz. almonds
8 oz/ cashews
8 oz/ large flake coconut (you can find this at a health food store)
3 oz. sunflower seeds
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup raisins
Mix first seven ingredients in a large bowl. Heat water, oil, honey and peanut butter until bubbly. Add vanilla and pour mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well and spread on two large cookie sheets. Bake in 200 degree over for about one hour. Stir occasionally while baking. Add raisins when cool. Store in airtight container.

ENJOY! I think I'll make a fresh batch today.

Happy 30th birthday Jake!

Happy birthday to a great son-in-law on April 4. First and foremost, he's a great dad and husband and takes very good care of his girls. We pay tribute to you and want you to know how proud we are of you Jake.

He swims!
He cooks!
He enjoys fun and games and he plays the guitar!
He has many great skillz!

He comes from a wonderful family and he was raised here locally and attended the rival high school. He came into the life of our daughter and swept her off her feet. We couldn't be happier for and more proud of Jake and all he has accomplished in his 30 years of life. He is a great provider and works very hard to take care of his family. He is a great asset to his law firm and his skills are in demand among the partners.
He's handsome, helpful and kind. He's funny, athletic, loves BYU sports and knows what's going on in life. It's always great to talk to Jake about a variety of topics. He serves with the Young Men in their ward and is a great asset. He served his mission in Spain and he speaks Spanish, so he and Jord can communicate in Spanish and keep their kids in the dark if they need to. We are so fortunate that he is a member of our family and we love him very much. Best wishes for a great year ahead Jake!
